Tip: Politeness markers like 'ạ' are very common in Vietnamese conversations, especially when speaking to service staff or people older than you. It softens your questions and requests and shows respect. You'll notice the staff in the dialogue uses 'ạ' frequently.
Tip: When addressing post office staff, using 'anh' (for younger men) or 'chị' (for younger women) before their response is appropriate if you know their gender and approximate age. For A1, simply using 'bạn' (gender-neutral, informal 'friend' or 'you') as the staff does, or simply starting your sentence without a pronoun, is also common and acceptable.
Tip: Vietnamese currency is the 'đồng' (VND). Prices are usually stated in thousands (nghìn). For example, 'mười lăm nghìn đồng' means 15,000 VND. It's helpful to get familiar with these numbers, as most transactions involve thousands of dong.
Tip: 'Cân' can mean both 'scale' and 'kilogram'. In the dialogue, 'một cân rưỡi' means one and a half kilograms. When you hear 'cân' in the context of weight, it almost always refers to kilograms in daily conversation.
