Tip: Addressing a repairman usually depends on their age relative to you. If they look older than you, use "anh" (older brother) or "chú" (uncle). If they are significantly older, "bác" is appropriate. Using "anh" is the most safe and common way to address male workers in a professional yet friendly manner.
Tip: In Vietnam, it is highly recommended to ask for an estimated price (báo giá) before the work begins. While many repairmen are honest, the scope of work can sometimes change, and having a verbal agreement on the base price prevents misunderstandings later when the bill arrives.
Tip: Tipping is not mandatory for repair services in Vietnam, but it is a kind gesture. If the repairman does a great job, arrives on time, and is helpful, giving a small tip of 20,000 to 50,000 VND for coffee (tiền cà phê) is very much appreciated.
